Special rights, privileges
and financial assistance
- a monthly reimbursement for special
expenses caused by deafness, amounting from 280 to 600 Kuna (40 to 80
Euro) given to all deaf persons, no matter what is their income or
property
- no participation in covering the cost
of health services and medicines
- during the past 30 years all totally
deaf persons have had special privilege to get their old age pension
after 32 years (males), or 28 years (women) of work, so that most deaf
became full right pensioners, before the age of 50(In the recent years,
however, a more rigid law has been issued)
- a 75% reduction of travel tickets
prices in trains and ships, 4 times a year
- free interpreter's service in courts
and public administration
- free mobile phone registration, a 40
Euro reduction in price of any mobile phone, and a maximum reduction of
SMS message price (about 0,015 Euro for a SMS). Reduction of telephone
bills. About 3000 deaf and hard of hearing owners of mobile phone.
- free hearing aids and signaling devices
for the deaf and hard of hearing
- about 1000 families of the deaf and
hard of hearing own a Fax machine provided either free or under special
favorable conditions
- daily news on TV - 5 minutes in sign
language, once a week sports, health and Holy Mass with sign
interpreter. Teletext service with a special page for the deaf and hard
of hearing.
- a printed periodical ("UKRATKO") for
the deaf and hard of hearing. Publishing activity - tens of informative
booklets.
- special Fax service numbers and call
formularies for the Police Stations and in the First Aid emergency
health service
